Jelly is my favorite kids party food idea! It’s light on little stomachs, colorful, quick and easy to make, and doesn’t require lots of investment. And the best part is your kids can participate in preparation of this treat for their little friends by, for example, placing some fruit or berries in the glass bowls or by mixing the powder with water (please don’t add fresh pineapple or kiwi fruit, as the jelly will not set).
I always try experimenting and adding something new, even to the same type of snack. For example, once, when there was an “Under the Sea” party theme, I’ve added gummy fish candies on the bottom of glasses, filled with jelly. Another time there were berries inside jelly. My previous experiment involved layered jelly of different colors and with various berries in each layer. As it was not enough, I’ve done angled layer of the first color of jelly in my last creation. You can always create some new designs with your jelly snack and surprise your guests.
What you need
With jelly as a party food, single color or layered in different colors, you don’t need much:
- jelly powder
- glass bowls
- measuring cup
- water
How to prepare
First, prepare jelly for the first layer. Follow instructions on the jelly’s box. Mine instructions say mix with 1 glass of hot water, mix well, then add 1 glass of cold water. And this is how I usually prepare it.
If you plan to add berries, put them on the bottom of your glass bowls, or ask your helper to do this. Once berries and your first color of jelly is inside the bowls, place them in the fridge. If you want angled layer of your first color, use something under your bowls. For example, a plastic plate.
After a couple of hours, prepare the second color of jelly using the same technique. Again, if you want berries, place them first. Your first layer should be frozen enough. Check the result by moving your glass bowl. If jelly doesn’t move – it’s ready for another color. You can pour your second layer on top right after mixing the second jelly, or you may want to place your second color in a fridge for 5-10 minutes to get it less liquid. Any way will work I ( I did mine right away).
Add layer after layer until you reach your final result. Layered jelly makes a great kids party food idea – fun and easy to make. Enjoy!
